Gasification of woody biomass in a novel indirectly heated bubbling fluidized bed steam reformer

Within this work, a novel 50 kWth indirectly heated bubbling fluidized bed steam reformer (IHBFBSR) is presented, along with its commissioning experiments. In the IHBFBSR, heat provided through two radiant tube natural gas burners in and freeboard area. The aim of innovative design sufficient provision for biomass reforming cracking reactions loss reduction, thus allowing possibility scaling-up to an industrial level. Experiments were performed woody feedstocks material particle sizes under different operating conditions (steam ratio, lambda, temperature), order identify setup's main characteristics. Product composition quality, as well cold efficiency IHBFBSR reasonable agreement similar systems, however carbon conversion prediction needs further improvement. H2 production tar removal are favoured by small char accumulation Furthermore, air injection above led improved H2/CO ratios lower yields compared when used fluidization agent. Overall, it was shown that technology constitutes promising development field allothermal gasification.
